scruffy old record store

there's so much good 'off-chart' music out there...

Cardiff has a few music shops i go in:

the epic/shoddy Spillers opposite the ripped-up concrete by the Hayes

the makeshift-looking but axly been-here-forever Kelly's up the stairs of the Covered Market

the i'm-a-bit-scared-to-go-in Catapult 'dance(?)music shop in the zappy High Street Arcade

the 2 Roath joints i know - by Polski Sklep, Death Jtn.- D'Vinyl & the exotically-titled The Record Shop round corner from Tesco - both fun if you diet enough to fit inside (no prob for me, readers)

there's also the Evil Corporation shops HMV & Virgin & Fopp - lining Queen St. made slightly more human by some friendly staff treading water in corporate Hades & little vinyl sections

if you can reach a telly/typewriter combo, like Beth leant me here
find boomkat dot com it's proper good, with 30-second sneak listens

still, there ain't nuffink like dusty-fingered searching for that right record in gloomy, nearly-bankrupt independent stores, held together by creative & not always cheerful mavericks. Cardiff County Council should list all of the above independent shops & leave the Biggies to fight among 'emselves

also recommended by Squid&Squirel is last.fm
simply taptap an artist in & they'll make a bespoke wee radio station for you to sooth/antagonise you as you do your online dating etc.

i shouldn't omit that century-old miracle - radio

go buy a £3.47 small grey object in Argos
(or even find quirky little windup/torch festival versions online)

today i woke up with a Radio Four (civilisation is Radio Four!) discussion about the Franciscan Order & some pop song in Welsh on Radio Cymru

endless shark&nazi satellite TV channels will not enrich your life like a £3.47 shard of oriental plastic will

get fuzzing & clicking

suggest your present top 3 tunes in the Comments bit
thank you x

[1] 'it's getting boring by the sea' blood red shoes
[2] 'if' high contrast
[3] 'you. me. dancing.' los campesinos

[these will change tomorrow, and the day after, advert infinitum]

btw - amen to radio 4=civilisation (ironic considering my employment affiliation, no?)
